Duck Race Report May 2026

2026’s first Llangrannog Duck Race took place on Bank Holiday Sunday 24 May 2026. All 500 ducks were sold as well as Llangrannog merchandise like postcards and keyrings, and we made just over £500.

It was a very hot and busy day in the village. Massive thanks to everyone who came to man the stall, especially the crew from Bryngobaith! Gerry and Cynyr deserve a special mention for creating a dam at the far end of the culvert to give the ducks plenty of water to run in.

The first four ducks’ sponsors won a cash prize, which was probably all spent on ice cream! Several dozen kids lent a hand to collect the wayward ducks before they escaped to the sea. They are back safe in their nests and will race again on August Bank Holiday Sunday.

All proceeds go towards the Llangrannog Welfare Committee’s work such as maintaining the Village Garden, the Lime Kiln, benches, signs and noticeboards. This year we are also looking to run a few social events such as the very popular BBQ, a garden party and more litterpicks. We also have a plan to ease the pressure on the rubbish bins next to the beach – watch this space.

All the members (22 this year) are volunteers and as such your money goes straight to help the village. If you would like to know more about our work or become a member of the Friends of Llangrannog please check out the website https://friendsofllangrannog.org/

Adroddiad y Ras Hwyaid

Cynhaliwyd Ras Hwyaid gyntaf Llangrannog 2026 ar Ddydd Sul Gŵyl y Banc 24 Mai 2026. Gwerthwyd pob un o’r 500 o hwyaid yn ogystal â nwyddau Llangrannog fel cardiau post a chylchoedd allweddi, a gwnaethom ychydig dros £500.

Roedd yn ddiwrnod poeth a phrysur iawn yn y pentref. Diolch yn fawr iawn i bawb a ddaeth i weithio ar y stondin, yn enwedig y criw o Fryngobaith! Mae Gerry a Cynyr yn haeddu sylw arbennig am greu argae ym mhen pellaf y cwlfert i roi digon o ddŵr i’r hwyaid redeg ynddo.

Enillodd noddwr y pedwar hwyaden gyntaf wobr ariannol, a wariwyd y cyfan ar hufen iâ, mwy na thebyg! Rhoddodd sawl dwsin o blant help llaw i gasglu’r hwyaid crwydr cyn iddynt ddianc i’r môr. Maent yn ôl yn ddiogel yn eu nythod a byddant yn rasio eto ar Ddydd Sul Gŵyl y Banc ym mis Awst.

Mae’r holl elw yn mynd tuag at waith Pwyllgor Lles Llangrannog megis cynnal a chadw Gardd y Pentref, yr Odyn Galch, meinciau, arwyddion a byrddau hysbysiadau. Eleni rydym hefyd yn bwriadu cynnal rhai digwyddiadau cymdeithasol fel y barbeciw poblogaidd iawn, parti gardd a mwy o gasgliadau sbwriel. Mae gennym gynllun hefyd i leddfu’r pwysau ar y biniau sbwriel wrth ymyl y traeth – cadwch lygad allan am hyn.

Mae’r holl aelodau (22 eleni) yn wirfoddolwyr ac felly mae eich arian yn mynd yn syth i helpu’r pentref. Os hoffech wybod mwy am ein gwaith neu ddod yn aelod o Gyfeillion Llangrannog, ewch i’r wefan https://friendsofllangrannog.org/

AGM 2026

Many thanks to everyone who came to the AGM at the Beach Hut April 2026. Thanks to Jane for hosting us. We now have 21 members ranging in age from 16 upwards, and lots planned for the coming year – a village garden party, another beach BBQ, the revival of the Surf Club, plans to tie in with the Eisteddfod y Garreg Las which is being held so close to us, and lots more.

Wayne Lewis from 4Llan was invited to speak to us about recent developments; we were especially interested in their support for the Pontgarreg School Field and what might become of it, affordable housing ideas and a plan for a Local Energy Club.

4Llan serves four local parishes, and was set up to support community projects. It is a community benefit organisation, not for profit. It is a vehicle for doing things – getting funding, setting up groups to move projects forward, seeking advice and funding.

Housing – speaking to Barcud, looking at sites for housing, talking to landowners, locals, planning. Pontgarreg field for example – we have met with community, council etc. General feeling so far is they want green space and maybe a few houses. Villagers would keep hold of the land and be very much involved in design and running of it. An asset lock means it could not be sold on.

Energy – a local famer expressed interest in a turbine towards Synod Inn; this has been pursued with the National Grid. It’s near the substation. Initial feasibility study commissioned, environmental and technical assessments. PV and turbine. Part feed to local business direct, then an energy local club – 100 houses in the area to buy the cheap electricity. This avoids pylons. Batteries can minimise waste. Supported by the Welsh Government for Smart Local Energy Systems. Grants, share issue and a commercial loan. Funders are keen.

Cymuned – On 25 April at Caerwedros Hall the new swift tower is being opened by an expert. Other projects are welcome.

Getting involved – £10 for a year. Organisations can join.

Members can join meetings for specific projects, suggest ideas for projects and spaces to use, gain support for projects and hear all the latest updates.

Cinio Nadolig – Christmas Dinner 2025

This year’s Over 60s Christmas Dinner was held in the Pentre Arms on 10 December 2025.

We had around 40 Llangrannog residents come together to celebrate the season, including new additions to the village Jill and Nigel Davies who have just moved into Bryngobaith (above the Patio Cafe). Welcome to them!

Johnathan Rees was stirring as ever on the fiddle, and there was some lovely singing with some surprising voices (in a good way!). Chairman of the Welfare Committee Adrian Brice made a short speech thanking villagers for their support and Committee members for their hard work. Appreciation was also given to Mike Rutherford and the staff for another fantastic meal. Thanks to everyone who gave a donation towards the cost of the meal, it’s much appreciated to allow us to continue our work.

If you know of anyone who is over 60 and has a Llangrannog postcode, let us know and we can add them to the list for next year (they can bring a friend). We don’t like to ask, are you 60?!
