Duck Race Report May 2026

2026’s first Llangrannog Duck Race took place on Bank Holiday Sunday 24 May 2026. All 500 ducks were sold as well as Llangrannog merchandise like postcards and keyrings, and we made just over £500.

It was a very hot and busy day in the village. Massive thanks to everyone who came to man the stall, especially the crew from Bryngobaith! Gerry and Cynyr deserve a special mention for creating a dam at the far end of the culvert to give the ducks plenty of water to run in.

The first four ducks’ sponsors won a cash prize, which was probably all spent on ice cream! Several dozen kids lent a hand to collect the wayward ducks before they escaped to the sea. They are back safe in their nests and will race again on August Bank Holiday Sunday.

All proceeds go towards the Llangrannog Welfare Committee’s work such as maintaining the Village Garden, the Lime Kiln, benches, signs and noticeboards. This year we are also looking to run a few social events such as the very popular BBQ, a garden party and more litterpicks. We also have a plan to ease the pressure on the rubbish bins next to the beach – watch this space.

All the members (22 this year) are volunteers and as such your money goes straight to help the village. If you would like to know more about our work or become a member of the Friends of Llangrannog please check out the website https://friendsofllangrannog.org/

Duck Race

The August Bank Holiday Duck Race was a massive success due in no small part to the fabulous weather.

Thanks to everyone who supported via volunteering on the day, buying ducks or helping to collect them as they made their attempts to escape into the sea!

llangrannog

Llangrannog is unique: stunning natural beauty, rich culture, language and heritage, award-winning eateries, and a strong sense of community that extends from the heart of the village and its residents to those who own businesses or work here, were born and brought up here, have connections through family, participate in one of our community groups or projects, spent time as children at the Urdd, own homes here or visit regularly.

Friends of Llangrannog is an initiative – operated on a volunteer basis by Llangrannog Welfare Committee – dedicated to raising funds to ensure that our village remains the amazing place that we all love. We are hugely grateful to everyone who donates, whether in one-off or regular gifts. The funds raised help us to ensure: the upkeep of communal spaces, clean beaches, activities and opportunities for our young people, thriving Welsh language and culture, celebrations of our past, present and future, a sense of connection for our older residents and much else that keeps Llangrannog special.
